THE Morobe provincial land transport board (MPLTB) has revoked the licences of two PMV buses recently involved in separate accidents on the Busu Road in Lae, Morobe.

The owners of the two buses were requested to show cause within seven days why their licences should not remain terminated.

The buses included the one on which seminary student Kewa Michael died after he was hit on the head while trying to rescue two women passengers being harassed by the bus crew.

The other bus allegedly hit a woman at Hunter.

Governor Kelly Naru, chairman of the board, said “all PMVs operating in Lae city routes are directed to submit various information within seven days”.

The information includes:

l PMV owners’ place of origin;

l How many buses owned;

l How many routes does s/he operates or services;

l Operational age of the buses and PMV conditions; and

l Information about PMV crews and drivers.

“This information’s will enable the MPLTB to tailor its licence allocation to comply with the policy direction issued by the provincial government on March 5, 2013, to ensure all PMV licences issued are on 60/40 percentage split basis,” he said.

The 60% will go to Morobeans and 40% to others.

The board sub-committee includes Joseph Mand, Giossi Labi and Samson Timson.
