LAE City are preparing to send their two Ecuadorian players home for a break following the end of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League season this month.
City manager Edris Kumbruwah told The National yesterday that Abdias Aguirre and Gustine Icaza had shown interest in remaining with the champions who they joined on Jan 16 this year.
“We’ll be discussing with the franchise owner about the pair’s desire to remain with the club but for now we want to make sure they get home and have a break,” he said.
“They will be going for a break but it’s the Covid-19 restrictions that we’re worried about.
“We’re still looking at options and ways for them to go back safely.
“They’ve been here in the country long enough but we want to make sure there’s a safe passage for them under all the new strict travel conditions.
“It would be a good thing for the two of them to back and have a break because they’ve been here for nine months now.”
Meanwhile, the duo were treated to a tour of Morobe’s Huon Gulf over the weekend with the majority of City players now enjoying some downtime.
“Since they’ve spent most of their time in Lae, we decided to have a day out with them and visit Obert Bika’s village at Busamang along Salamaua,” City captain Emmanuel Simon said.
“It was good for all of us and it was a great experience for our Ecuadorian pair.”
