THE Lae Football Association is set to stage its pre-season competition before the regular season, says games fixture chairman John Peka.
The pre-season competition starts on the weekend of Feb 24-25 after the completion of the Football Federation PNG (FFPNG) Northern Conference Champions league.
According to Peka the pre-season competition will run for two weekends with Mairobs Hire Car sponsoring the event.
This will be the company’s third year to sponsor the event with the aim of uniting the youths within the city and the province.
Peka said the affiliation fee for the pre-season cup was K300 per team.
Peka said he was looking at 12 teams for the men’s competition and the same number for the women’s division. He said proper season would start after the pre-season competition.
“The proper season will see 27 clubs taking part and pooled into six divisions,” Peka said.
The A League men’s comp will have 13 teams, the men’s B league (13), women’s A league (10), U20 boys (18), U17 boys (10) and U17 girls (10).
“There will be 16 games played on Saturday’s and Sunday’s with eight games scheduled on ground one and the other eight on ground two.”
Peka said the registration to participate in the 2018 season is K700 per club and the player’s registration is K20 for the senior players and K10 for junior players.
The closing date for the affiliation fee is March 16 and clubs can deposit their payments into BSP Bank LFA account with the deposit slips to be handed over to the games fixture chairman.
Peka said there would be four courses to be conducted by the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation.
Areas to be cover were sports administration, coaching, refereeing and sports medicine.
“The courses will assist club officials and coaches to lift their standards of the football.”
