Lae hockey remembers veterans

A HOCKEY event was organised over the weekend to remember the past presidents who had given their time to Lae hockey.
The two-day President’s Cup 11-a-side hockey tournament organised by Lae City Hockey Association coincided with Remembrance Day on Saturday.
The tournament saw the association and players paying tribute to presidents who had served from 1962-2015.
Even though some of the past presidents had since passed on, their families were on hand to help celebrate their contributions to the city competition.
The tournament attracted five women’s teams and seven men’s teams.
In the women’s final, Iruba beat Sandpipers 3-0.
In the men’s final, Rapatona outplayed Sunam 4-1 in an all-Manus showdown.
Sandpipers beat Brothers 2-0 for third place.
PNG Hockey Federation vice-president Harry Kaisa, who was at the tournament, thanked Lae Hockey for coming up with the concept, adding that he hoped the tournament would get bigger next year.
