LAE police are to investigate reports of cult practice leading to killings on the island of Siassi, Tewai-Siassi, in Morobe.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said yesterday police would be sent there to investigate the beheading of a youth last month and the activities of a cult group.
“Last week leaders there came and reported to me, identifying names of four leaders of the cult group operating there,” N’Drasal said.
“We have their names. The investigations will be conducted and if there is any evidence of such practice, we will arrest and charge them,” he said.
N’Drasal alleged that it was a particular group that was causing more law and order problems on Siassi Island.
“People and the communities in those areas are frustrated and threatened by the cult group and it is becoming an influential activity that needs police intervention and arrest the leaders of the group.
He said village leaders also reported that the group was in possession of high-powered guns.
