POLICE arrested three men at a compound in Lae on July 17 after a vehicle, believed to be stolen, was located at their residence, an official says.
Lae metropolitan commander Chief Superintendent Chris Kunyanban said the white Toyota Harrier, which had been used as a taxi, was stolen on July 14 during a robbery near Butibam.
Kunyanban said his officers had received a tip off on the vehicle’s location and had went to the property and found it covered in a green canvas.
He said three men at the residence were also arrested and taken in for questioning.
Kunyanban said Criminal Investigation Division (CID) officers searched the house and found a police uniform with the name of a serving officer on it as well as a hand grenade.
He also confirmed that other tools including a tin cutter, pinch bar and a bolt cutter was also confiscated along with three home-made guns and a flare gun.
The hand grenade was handed over to the PNG Defence Force bomb specialists at Igam Barracks to be defused. The stolen vehicle was taken to Lae Central police station.
