THE Lae Diocese is preparing to commemorate the Easter Triduum, known as the most significant day in the Catholic Church calendar, says Lae Diocese Bishop Rozairo Menezes.
“These two sacred days – Maundy Thursday on March 28 (is when the monarch distributes minted coins), Good Friday on March 31 – hold immense importance for Christians worldwide, symbolising the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, the Christian community in Lae is gearing up for it, Menezes said.
One of the highlights of the Good Friday observance in the diocese is the traditional Diocesan Stations of the Cross organised by the diocesan youths.
This year, it will be on March 29, the procession will start from St Theresa Parish at Kamkumung at the break of dawn, traversing through the city and culminating at the Diocesan Hall at St Mary’s Primary School in Eriku by mid-day.
“What makes this year’s event even more special is the inclusion of a station led by Angelica Church, underscoring the spirit of ecumenism and unity among different denominations.
“Therefore, I invite everyone, irrespective of denominations to take part in these significant ceremonies, fostering a sense of community and shared reverence for the core tenets of Christianity,” Menezes said.
“As believers come together to reflect on the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, these days serve as a poignant reminder of the enduring message of hope, redemption and love.”
As the Easter Triduum approaches, Menezes urged the nation to unite in prayer, reflection and celebration reaffirming the faith and embracing the promise of renewal and salvation that Easter brings.
Menezes, the spiritual leader of the diocese, emphasised the profound significance of the triduum, saying that in all parishes and sub parishes in the diocese it would be celebrated meaningfully with witnessing of the faith.
