Lae school needs K200,000 to build new double classroom

AMBA Demonstration Primary School in Lae needs K200,000 to rebuild permanent double classrooms to cater for its 90 grade 6 pupils.
The classrooms that catered for 45 pupils per class were burnt two days before the national Grade 8 examinations last year.
Head teacher Michael Musalu said regardless, the school progressed smoothly by using available classrooms.
He said the incident became a challenge for the teachers, school board and parents to make them think beyond to improve pupils learning facilities to ensure academic excellence for the children.
The school is raising funds concurrently to build a makeshift shelter to minimise overcrowding before rebuilding permanent classrooms that need money and time.
The temporary shelter cost K20,000 and the permanent facility requires K200,000.
“We urged parents to complete the project fee before term three ends to enable the school to execute its building plan,” Musalu said.
“We also appeal to companies, government agencies and private citizens for their assistance in kind and cash because the tuition fees free is not forthcoming as expected by the school to execute our plans.”
The school is a level eight school with enrolment of 1400 students with 41 teachers and six streams in all grades totalling 36 classes
