KAMUNA and Veupunama face off in the grand finals of the men’s and mixed divisions in the Papua New Guinea Men’s and Mixed Netball Association competition in Port Moresby on Sunday.
Kamuna had to get through tough fixtures to reach the final with the men’s side defeating Auna Fonza 21-18 and the mixed team beating Keakalo 23-21.
The match against Auna Fonza saw Kamuna take a two-goal lead at the end of the third quarter before finishing it off with the final goal in the fourth quarter.
Shooters Donald Kala and Lawrence Lahari were dominant and ensured points were scored for Kamuna while Tivaum Gigimat, Komsi Tete with Ryan Keina were solid in defence.
In the mixed semifinal, Kamuna dominated the match and led by six points at halftime but a late surge from Keakalo saw them lead by one point heading into the fourth quarter.
The lead gave them some hope, but they couldn’t contain the brilliance of Kamuna’s Aivu Logona and Courtney Abel who led them to victory.
The grand finals will see Kamuna and Veupunama resume their rivalry.
It is the experience of Kamuna that gives them the upper hand in both divisions. But Veupunama’s height and speed can’t be written off as they look to give Kamuna a run for their money.
