PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls legend Adrian Lam says is confident that he will secure his Wigan Warriors future in the English Super League within the next few days.
The coach has made no secret of the fact that he wants to extend his stay with the club where he spent four years as a player.
In his second season as coach after succeeding Shaun Wane, the 50-year-old guided the side to the League Leaders’ Shield and Friday’s grand final, where they lost 4-8 to St Helens.
Asked about his future after the grand final defeat, the former Kumuls coach said: “I’ll have that sorted in the next 72 hours, I’m pretty confident it’ll be the case.
“I love it here.
“I’m loving it as coach and what we’re building, with young ones coming through, I think the vibe around the place we’re heading in the right direction.
“We’ve just lost a grand final on the last play and it hurts but I think moving forward, we’ll get stronger.”
Teenager Jack Welsby scored a brilliant try after the full-time hooter to give St Helens the win in a thrilling end to the grand final as they won their second-straight title.
Tommy Makinson launched a last-ditch drop goal to try to break the deadlock for St Helens.
His kick hit a post but Welsby reacted first, speeding in to touch the ball down and steal the victory for St Helens as the Wigan players looked stunned, while Lam said he thought his side deserved to win.
“It’s surreal,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s really heartbreaking for the players.
“We did everything possible at the end to get the win because I thought we deserved that.
“I thought our boys were unbelievably great.
“We kept turning up for each other.
“You don’t want it to end like that.
“ I thought we deserved to win.
“We had opportunities and we didn’t quite convert them and I think that’s what got us in the end.”
