THE 2010 National Gaming Control Board media pool competition came to an end on Saturday with the Lamana Media Council taking out the Cup after defeating the NGCB Niusmakers four frames to two.
With a best of three format for the singles and a double, the game took its toll on the players in an upsetting finish to send Lamana all the way to grab a hold of this year’s title.
The battle for the top spot between the two major sponsors began with Lamana’s Vani Toka taking the first scalp followed by Yiannis Nicolau in the second frame.
However, Kelly Yambi of the Niusmakers turned the table with his accurate potting defeating Andrew Laveil in the third frame, empowering his team with a winning streak that followed successfully by Niusmakers’ David Wambi who came in to seal their second frame.
But Lamana struck back to take the lead 3-2 after the singles session and maintained their dominance in the final doubles to set a 4-2 victory to take out the 2010 NGCB Cup and the K8,000 prize money.
Niusmakers settled for second placing and pocketed the K5,000 prize money.
In the playoff for third placing, Eye Magine Cuestars edged out the Cool Grafix Originals 4-3 in a decisive encounter.
The Cuestars collected K3,000, while the Cool Grafix bagged K2,000.
In the plate playoff, Rait Prepaid won the Lamana plate and the K500 prize money after edging out NauFM 4-3 in a decider.
The presentation will be made later this week.
