A DISCUSSION paper by the National Research Institute (NRI) has revealed the need to protect and preserve the integrity of the Land court decisions overtime.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Land Court Marki Selefkariu during the launching of the discussion paper said ‘Understanding the records management system of the Land Court in PNG’ said failure to provide this assurance and security has resulted in social ramifications.
He acknowledged the partners in the land disputes settlement space whose contributions have allowed them to chart their strategy for 2010-2015, and their current plans for 2016-2020 that capture their efforts in the area of files integrity and records management.
He said since 2017 they had engaged with world class experts in the Pacific region to audit and chart the way forward in the area of Records and Information Management.
He said phase one of that exercise had been completed, with the Chief Magistrate Nerrie Eliakim formally receiving the audit and detailed project implementation plans last year and given her blessing for implementation. “With their report they are now providing a crucial independent perspective to challenge, inform and support our plans at Magisterial Service and the Land Courts. Selefkariu said funding was needed to fully implement their plans.
