Landowner issues

Letters

NOT all landowners in mine sites in the country receive good treatment from a project developer.
Developers fail to do things which results in confrontation with the landowners.
The first thing a developer must do is to resettle landowners.
Identifying the rightful landowners through social mapping and resettling them is the basis of mining projects. This is to avoid land disputes and hiccups to project schedules.
In most cases, the consequences of these will be felt by landowners when the project ends. The developer cannot simply overlook these issues and continue to give royalty payments, thinking that this will shut the people’s mouth.
After the project ends, where will they live? What resources will be available for their future generations? The developer should treat our people as human beings as mine projects will not last forever.
The future of our people is very important.
