Landscape, funding hinders service delivery in Raicoast

RUGGED landscape in Raicoast, Madang, compounded by limited funding makes service delivery to its four LLGs and 84 wards difficult, MP Peter Sapia says.
The district development authority is determined to restore basic services in the LLGs – Saidor, Nayudo, Nahu-Rawa and Astrolabe Bay.
Sapia was at the ground breaking of a K3 million interior road from Naiko-Butemu at Gusap on Saturday.
Sapia said the initial payment of K480,000 to contractor Yamadi Bros was to start the project using funds from last year’s district services improvement programme funds.
He said to restore services, the DDA started with Ranara-Gomomu road (K2 million), Ranara-Tauta (K600,000) and Naiko Butemu to link 22 interior villages.
Sapia gave K100,000 in collaboration with Ramu Agri Industries Ltd and New Britain Palm Oil Foundation to restore the Ranara aid post.
He said K300,000 was invested for peace reconciliation using the police mobile squad, K8mil given to Works to complete Astrolabe Bay’s Yowor Bridge and K250,000 to upgrade eight airstrips in Nayudo, Nahu-Rawa and Long Island in Saidor.
