ELEVALA’s Laurabada snatched the championship as they defeated the Elex Lahara 600 13-12 in the Motu Koita West Netball Association mixed grand final in the National Capital District on Saturday.
Elex dominated the first half of the match with a 6-5 lead but in a turn of events in the second half, Laurabada made their statement as they defeated the opposition by a point.
Captain Geua Gavera said although it was a tough match, she was grateful that her team gave their best and won the grand final.
“It was an emotional game as we had a tough first half but we did our very best in the second half,” she said.
“I’m proud of the team.
“Throughout the season, we won most of our games except for a forfeit and a draw.
“It was a bit hard to even lead the team because we didn’t have managing staff, it was just the players.
“But through communication and teamwork, we made it to the finals and won.”
Gavera acknowledged their elders, mothers and sponsor Lohia Boe Samuel for their support.
“Without their support, we wouldn’t have come this far to the finals so on behalf of the team, thank you to our sponsor for supporting us with our uniforms and other necessities,” she said.
“Our aim is to up-skill the younger players and get them into larger competitions so they can be better players.”
