Law must be fair to men too

Letters

I READ with interest the proposed amendment by the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission to give women equal rights to property and assets in the event of a marriage break-up. I believe it is a good move, considering that majority of failed marriages in Papua New Guinea is the result of recklessness of men. However, what happens in a case where a marriage breakup is the fault of the woman due to adultery and other reasons. I would not want to share my assets with an adulteress despite her contribution in looking after my family. The amendment must also be fair on men if the women are breadwinners and own the assets and property. The husband should also have equal rights to the property and assets of their wives. I am not privy to the proposed amendments but I am sure Dr. Kwa is a learned man not to have missed this point. The onus is now with the parliamentarians not to pass this until men are given equal rights in the proposed amendments.
