THE Constitutional and Law Reform Commission is looking at introducing a Budget Honesty Bill similar to the one used by New Zealand.

Secretary, Dr Eric Kwa told New Zealand High Commissioner, Marion Crawshaw and her deputy Nicci Stilwell that the reform commission was looking at copying NZ’s internet law.

Kwa said Attorney-General and Justice Minister Kerenga Kua has asked the CLRC to propose legislation to perfect and promote the integrity of the budget.

He said they found out that New Zealand was far advanced on the budget law with Australia following closely.

He said a team was sent to New Zealand and Australia last November to discuss with government officials there on this particular law. The CLRC is therefore developing the country’s own Budget Honesty Bill.

Kwa said NZ had a comprehensive Internet Law which PNG wanted to address the issue of children accessing adult sites and other improper use of the internet.

He gave a briefing on what the commission was doing in terms of the directive and terms of references given by the Head of State and Government.

Dr Kwa said consultations on the Organic Law on provincial governments and local level governments will resume in the Highlands, Morobe and Madang on Feb 18.
