A LAWYER has been charged with defamatory publications against Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas.
Laken Lepatu Aigilo, 33, of Papayuku village, Laigam, Porgera, in Enga was read his charge by Magistrate Garry Unjo yesterday in the Waigani Committal Court.
On July 22, police reported that Aigilo allegedly posted on his Facebook page, under the title: “An open letter to Peter Ipatas” some disparaging and damaging comments about Sir Peter.
Police alleged that Aigilo made further posts, saying: “At the eve of the election, you withdrew K10 million from Enga Children’s Fund with other public funds; you conducted rallies all over Enga and bribed people in the name of service delivery.
“You had five years to deliver services but waited all these years just to deliver during campaign time,” the post read.
“Engans are not stupid, you made a fool out of yourself. They received their monies as “finish pay” to dump you.
“Realising such, you went to the extreme to pump over K100,000 accompanied with 100s of beer cartons to each polling area. You did all these shamelessly in public, without of lawsuits, everyone witnessed the same.”
Police alleged that Aigilo made a second post (on the same date): “An open letter by 400,000 people of Enga to PJV (Barrick Niugini Ltd), disclose Porgera mine benefits paid to Mr Peter Ipatas…”
Aigilo allegedly commented: “Mr Peter Ipatas is running Enga province as his private company without accounting to Enga people.
“How much money he had received from Porgera mining and how he had spent. Ipatas became governor at the same time the mining started.”
Aigilo is out on a K300 bail and will return to court on Nov 23 for mention.

  • If the lawyer had evidence let me provide it at the court room to safe his face. Else, he can have his day for blatantly coming out on social media without any justifiable evidences.

  • Same idiot who continuous to defame his governor. Him and most engan children should be greatful for all the school fee assistance they have recieved since Ipatas became their governor.
Peter Ipatas does not need to hold various qualifications or degrees to have that kind of vision. He is a very wise man if he can look into the future to see what he would want to achieve in 10-20 years time ir even longer hence we continue to see infrastructures after infrastructures being built all over enga compared to some resource rich province like my province of western.
Some of you engans are trying to chop off the hands that feeds you. What diference can you do?
WHP did same against Wingti and look where WHP is compared to Enga today.
Have some respect for such lowly educated person whom you chest besting so called educated elites discredit profoundly.
    Shame, shame, shame!
