PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls and Townsville Blackhawks playmaker Kyle Laybutt says he is eager to add to his two National Rugby League (NRL) appearances for the North Queensland Cowboys.
He told The National from Townsville last week that he was disappointed about the cancellation of Queensland Intrust Super Cup.
“But I’ve never wavered from my goal of playing in the NRL,” the 24-year-old said. “When I play football, I want to do it at the highest level I possibly can.
“After having a taste of first-grade football, I just want to do it again.
“But if the opportunity doesn’t come around, I’m okay with that.
“It’s disappointing that the ISC season is cancelled because I love rugby league.
“I just want to get back to playing football as soon as possible.”
Laybutt was part of the Cowboys first-grade squad from 2016-2018. He earned his NRL stint after an outstanding season with the Cowboys’ Under-20 side in the National Youth Competition in 2015.
With so many quality players in the first-grade side, Laybutt only played two NRL games, making his debut against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park in round 15 in 2017.
