Lead by example, Sir Michael

Letters, Normal

IN a press conference last Tuesday, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare came out blasting journalists about their reporting on a number of issues, one of them the Commission of Inquiry into the Finance Department.
He expressed anger saying he could not prosecute anyone implicated in this inquiry because someone had gone to court to put a temporary stop to it.
“I can’t prosecute because someone decided to use the court to sit on it,” he is quoted in the press as saying.
Maybe the prime minister should tell us who ran to court to put a lid on and stop the Moti Inquiry report from being published and implemented.
Is it not himself?
The prime minister’s office is the highest office in the land and the person occupying this office must set the example for others to follow.
Otherwise, we will lose respect for the rule of law and anarchy will set in.
Sir Michael must, therefore, set the example and withdraw his action in court and allow the Moti report and its recommendations to be implemented, just like he wants to the Finance Inquiry report.
Take the lid off these reports so people implicated in both the Finance and Moti inquiries can be prosecuted for their actions.
What have they to hide if they feel they have done nothing wrong?
