Is govt serious on transnational highway?

Letters, Normal

I REFER to the letter “Highway will provide opportunities” (The National, June 7) by Joel Palem about the transnational highway.
I would like to commend the government for taking this bold move.
Is the government really serious about completing this highway?
The PNGDF has already started work on the first phase of this project and K20 million has been released.
However, the funds for the second phase have yet to be released.
As a result, work on the highway has ceased since the allocated amount has been used on buying new equipment and clearing 20km of the road.
When is the Finance Department going to release funds so that construction work can continue?
The department cannot hijack this project.
We, the people of Mul- Baiyer and Ukini Maiwa, cannot wait to see this highway linking Madang and Western Highlands.
