Leader out of touch with people

Letters

MANY people of Oro seem shallow minded and careless and don’t even understand the meaning and importance of politics, political leadership and political power.
Therefore, when it comes to election time, they are everywhere with their own small needs or thought out programmes seeking assistance from candidates in exchange for their votes.
Some Christian churches are even worse like Esau in Genesis 25: 29-34, exchanging their rights and prosperity for a soup.
They say they know politics but their actions show that they are still far behind other provinces in their thinking and understanding of politics.
Governor Gary Juffa has taken advantage of their lack of understanding to fool, mislead and make us suffer over the last 10 years.
Many including pregnant mothers have died from birth complications and from preventable sicknesses and diseases.
Juffa does not care whether people live or die.
He does not care whether the children get quality education in order to compete with children from other provinces for spaces at the nation’s universities and compete for highly paid jobs to improve their living standards or assist parents and communities like what is happening in other provinces.
He is so obsessed with self and how he can benefit whilst in office regardless of whether or not people receive government services.
His best weapon in his endeavours has been to fluently speak his mother’s Hunjara language of the Kokoda local level government area in gatherings and in so doing has fooled people to vote for him in the elections.
Nevertheless, his tactic is now known and the fact is, he has no attributes of a Kokoda or Orokaiva leader who knows how to love, share and care which is part of our culture that transcends generations.
That’s what Orokaiva means – welcome.
But he is out of touch with the ordinary people which shows he is of another class therefore not fit to represent the people of Oro.
This general election is a make or break for the province.
Elect someone who is more humane and considerate of our well-being and prosperity including the prosperity of our children.
All churches in the province should get on their knees before our loving Heavenly Father to have mercy on us, intervene from heaven and help us to vote in a better governor in this election.
