Leaders must end fighting in Kagua-Erave

Letters, Normal

THE continuous tribal fight in Aiya LLG, Kagua-Erave, has claimed many innocent lives.
Properties worth thousands of kina have been destroyed and many families have fled.
The violence that started during the 2002 elections in Wabi-Sumi is still going on today.
The number of innocent lives lost in the hands of these so-called warriors is unwarranted.
Many people in the area have also succumbed silently to diseases and hunger and many of such deaths are unaccounted for.
It is time Kagua-Erave MP James Lagea takes urgent measures and address this long-running issue.
The educated elites of Wabi-Sumi must also gather the warring tribes and come to compromise than turning a blind eye.
After all, these are our own people who have been divided just because of the influence and selfish acts of a handful of people.
It is time the people of Sumi, Wasuma, Yaware, Roalomanda, Lakira, Wake and Kandopa thrash out their differences and hold a proper peace talk.
The tribal fights have affected the neighbouring villages of Uma, Usa, Ibia, Imane, Wabi, Kagua and the entire Kagua Valley.
We appeal to Lagea, PPC Supt Teddy Tei and Governor Anderson Agiru to step in.
Kagua-Erave is once known for its peace-loving and God-fearing people. But because of politics, common sense went out of the window.
