A TOTAL of men and women’s 14 teams have shown their interest to affiliate with the Giluwe Rugby League in Western Highlands.
The league plans to stage its preseason next weekend which will be followed by the regular season.
Teams from the Giluwe area and from the neighbouring Southern Highlands (Mendi) and Enga (Wapenamanda) have shown interest in being part of the new league.
The league is recognised by the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL).
Founding president Ezekiel Akilo said they hoped to draw out and expose talents from the most remote parts of the province around Mt Giluwe in the Tambul-Nebilyer electorate.
He said all games for the league would be held at Tambul station.
Akilo said the league’s season would be kicked off by PNGRFL Highlands Confederate director Joe Tokam and in attendance would be sponsor Lae Biscuit Company and Lae Tigers coach Stanley Tepend.
