 GARY Ablett Junior, regarded as the greatest AFL player of all time, is heading to Port Moresby again in October for the Gateway Children’s Fund PNG.

Joining him for the 2nd Annual Gateway Charity Golf Day is Jason Smith, former Olympian and captain of National Basketball Association side Sydney Kings.

Events include a sports legends dinner on Oct 8 at Crowne Plaza, and a charity ambrose golf day on Oct 9 at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club, followed by a sports memorabilia auction of many unique autographed items. 

“I am really excited to be going to Port Moresby again,” Ablett said from Brisbane. 

“There is a big need in PNG, especially among young kids. 

“I’m delighted to be part of these sports events to raise funds so Gateway can build a new schoolroom.”

It will be Smith’s first visit to PNG and is excited to come.

Both leading Australian sportsmen strong Christian faiths and are committed to their local churches.

Speaking in Port Moresby, the chairman of Gateway Children’s Fund Pastor Rick Paynter said: “We thank Gary and Jason and all our sponsors for their hard work to make these events successful. 

“It’s a high quality weekend to raise funds to help kids and families in PNG escape the cycle of poverty and have better lives.”

The Gateway Children’s Fund is an accredited Child Development Agency, working with Global Development Group Project No J739N, to release children from poverty in PNG. 

It provides infant and maternal care, immunisation, pre-school, literacy, elementary school and community development (water and sanitation projects).
