Let people vote LLG presidents

Letters

THE local level government (LLG) presidents should be voted by the people and not ward councillors.
The 18-month grace period for incumbent presidents is about to end and motions of no confidence can be entertained.
Most councillors are lobbying to unseat their presidents and in doing so, they are accumulating debts, causing confusion and creating instability in their LLGs.
The LLG presidents are worried about retaining their seats and are holding back funds.
They tend to liaise with businessman in their areas for support.
The people do not deserve this.
LLGs are small institutions and funds meant for development are toyed with while people suffer.
In 2008, when LLG presidents were introduced, there was stability.
A provision in the Organic Law prevented motions of no confidence and LLGs have performed well in terms of service delivery between 2008 and 2018.
Now all that has changed.
We should let people vote for their LLG presidents and not ward councillors.
