CITY Pharmacy Limited continued its support for Papua New Guinea cricket with the company committing K200,000 for the national women’s team the Lewas.
The sponsorship will support the Lewas’ international fixtures and the high performance training programme for two years.
CPL managing director Mahesh Patel said: “At CPL we have a strong belief in empowering women, so there is a big load on your shoulders; we want you to be role models to show what can be achieved through sports.”
“We hope to see more women participating in the development pathways, programmes and competitions, with the aim of identifying the next generation of Lewas.”
Cricket PNG chairperson Helen Macindoe thanked CPL for its support saying the Lewas had made significant improvements over the last two years.
“This has been a great partnership since CPL came on board in 2016 and the Lewas have grown from strength to strength,” Macindoe said.
“The Lewas have retained their number one ranking in the East-Asia Pacific region in both the 50-over and T20 formats.
“They have also secured their place among the top 16 teams in women’s cricket.
“The Lewas won the plate at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Thailand in 2016 and have had several players turning out for the East-Asia Pacific regional women’s team in the Australian country cricket competition.”
The Lewas will be gearing up for the T20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers in the Netherlands in July.
