LIHIR royalty money allocated to Kavieng totalling K12,638,604.25 since its first receipt in February this year, has been redirected to health, education and small to medium enterprise sectors, local MP Ian Ling-Stuckey says.
He shared the public acquittal at the grade 8 graduation held at Lamusmus Primary school, ward 16 in the Tikana local level government area on Friday.
“New Irelanders, since 2007 and for nearly 15 years, have been constantly hearing about Lihir royalties, but in Kavieng, we have not smelt, felt or seen it despite having received over K400 million over the same period,” Ling-Stuckey, who is the Treasurer, said.
He assured people that Kavieng development authority would support the Lamusmus Primary School’s infrastructure plan, including construction of teachers’ housing after the presentation of a K250,000 cheque.
