AIR Niugini has resumed its Link PNG flights into Hela after the suspension of flights to Tari airport last weekend.

All commercial flights in and out of the airport were suspended following the damage done on the perimeter fence on New Year’s Day.

Hela acting administrator William Bando said the fence was pulled down by some people in Tari without explaining the reason.

He said then flights would be suspended indefinitely until the National Airport Corporation put up a new fence around the airport.

Link PNG general manager Daniel Wanma said they resumed flights after the provincial police commander assured that security at the airport would be provided.

“Link PNG has resumed flights to Tari while the National Airports Corporation is working on the damaged fencing,” Wanma said.

“Hela Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Michael Welley assured that the airport will be secured for all flights.

“A police unit has been deployed to patrol the airport area and to provide security for the aircraft.

“In the meantime, Link PNG continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure that safety and security are maintained at the highest level.”

Link PNG was recently presented with a three-year Air Operator’s Certificate after completing its Air Operator review conducted by Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
