THE Sandaun Chamber of Commerce and Industry says new project developments in the region would boost business opportunities in Vanimo.

Chamber president Boni Leki said projects such as the Frieda River gold and copper project and the free trade zone development would provide opportunities for businesses to expand and new businesses to be created.

Leki said business houses in the province had shown interest in seeing the projects materialise, so that they could take advantage of the opportunities.

“The free trade zone headed by the former West Sepik Governor John Tekwie looks promising,” Leki said.

“It would offer an advantage to most of our school leavers in the province to venture into small-medium enterprises.

“We would see products traded freely and there will be expectations of good revenue to come to businesses as well as for the country.

“The Frieda River project has seen some developments recently.

“A recent gathering of the provincial authorities from both Wewak and Vanimo shows there is progress and we are all anticipating the positive outcome going forward.

“These are opportunities and business have been encourage to take it when the time is right.”

Leki said the provincial government under Governor Amkat Mai had shown support in encouraging small-medium enterprises in the province to grow and expand.

He urged the people to utilise the project.
