Listen to the people of Morobe

Letters

THE people of Morobe should stand together and support the Morobe governemnt and landowners decisions to not allow deep sea tailing.
So far, two different media articles came out this week, one sees the church opposing the waste disposal method and the other was about the Government to decide on waste disposal.
Interestingly, one came from a spiritual leader, the head bishop of Lutheran church Rev Jack Urame and the other came from the Environment, Conservation and Climate Change Minister Wera Mori.
When one reads between the lines the church’s views, Urame was speaking on behalf of the nine districts of Morobe.
About 90 per cent of Morobe people are Lutheran church followers and when our bishop speaks, we are spiritually bound to listen to him.
The entire Morobe Christian churches support our spiritual leader on ‘No Deep Sea Tailing Disposal’ from Wapi-Golpu project.
This message should be clear, God has spoken through the mouth of Urame.
Mori’s side of the story is somewhat a joke.
He was in Lae last week and has been properly informed about the Morobe people’s stand.
We are against deep see tailing.
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu told the Government that Morobe accepted Wafi Golpu project without deep see tailing.
The people of Bulolo, Huon Gulf and Morobe government are the resource owners.
The Government should treat us with respect. We have learned a lot from the past including Panguna mine.
We cannot repeat those mistakes.
The Government is free to look elsewhere to carry out mining activities until such a time that Morobe comes up with better alternatives.
