LLG elections

Letters

THE local level government elections are coming up.
I am urging all eligible voters from Wewak Island LLG in East Sepik to be mindful when choosing councilors.
Please do not follow family system to vote.
We need to choose good councilors.
Choose new, vibrant, creative, pro-active and visionary individuals to represent us.
Ward members who can create difference within the community level.
From my own perspective, councilors need political mind shift.
Do not act too much like national MPs.
Yes, you are a mandated leaders, but your title is ward councilor and you have limited functions.
Your role and center of attention should be community-oriented.
You cannot play like national MPs because you are missing out in top-down planning policy.
This procedure does not work well with you.
You should hang on to the bottom-up planning policy.
Do not sit back and expect bigger things from Waigani. Create self-help projects within your ward, organise your communities and utilise useful handouts, such as outboard motors to generate income.
At least simple people can pay for their children’s school fees.
Ward development committees are the people on the ground to help you.
Use local knowledge to bring basic services to the small people.
