ELECTED ward councillors and a chief from wards 15 to 21 in the Sursurunga-Tanglamet area of Namatanai local level government and ward 1 of Konoagil LLG have recently reconciled with New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan.

Representing the respective wards forming the new Matalai LLG, bipartisan committee chairman Toli Libai said: “We are here today to reconcile with Governor Sir Julius Chan in a feast and we pledge to stand united at the ward level to ensure our dream of establishing a separate LLG in Namatanai district is rock solid.”

He said they recognised Sir Julius’ continued support.

The governor had asked Namatanai MP Byron Chan and the provincial assembly to seek approval from the National Executive Council for the formation of the new LLG. That had been achieved.

Sir Julius urged the people of the new Matalai LLG to elect a vibrant and honest president and ward members in the upcoming LLG elections.

“My government does not lie to the people. We are planning for the future of New Ireland, your children.

“We are guided by the vision of the Malagan Declaration.

“The PPP government has implemented what we promised during last year’s elections.”
