EXISTING conditions of health workers on Lihir Island will be reviewed if Nimamar local level government president Rudolph Tondop has his way.
Tondop said he would request the Lihir sub-district manager, Lihir manager and Lihir sub-district health manager to upgrade work conditions to meet national standards in terms of pay for equal work.
Tondop told a recent graduation of health workers on a safe motherhood course that it was a matter of ethics and not of convenience.
He said he was aware that most health staff on the island were not adequately remunerated for
their services in line with standing industrial awards.
Lihir has eight aid posts, one sub-health centre and one health centre serving 14,000 people.
