The new lodge has 50 rooms and 20 apartments.
Owner and managing director Eke Lama challenged those present at the opening to start their own businesses and work hard have succeed.
“If you want to be successful in business, make use of your land that is where the money is,” he said.
“I still remember my teacher from Kiriwina who taught me to count and read which helped me to come this far with the limited knowledge I learned in grade three.”
Lama has properties around the country and employs over 200 nationals.
He said he did not establish the lodge to compete with other five lodges in Alotau, but to provide services to the people.
Alotau MP Charles Abel told the people to use Lama as an example of local business people who were successful.
“This man started the hard way to end up a rich man today,” he said.
“If you are dreaming to become like this man who dedicated his time to get to where he is now, you all must work very hard.
“It is very unfortunate we have only few people like him.
“My word of encouragement to you all, we work hard to be successful.
“He (Lama) did this tirelessly and now a lot of people are benefiting from him.
“He is creating employment for our people and bringing revenue to our province.
“I respect him and I look forward to working with him to provide vital services to our people.”
