A CHIMBU rugby league competition received K10,000 from the Gumine district administration during the grand final over the weekend.
The Wikauma Rugby League is aimed at keeping youths occupied and promoting peace in wards one, two and three in the Gumine local-level government area.
District adviser and Gumine Development Authority chief executive Dian Kil kicked off the Kulsuna Builders and Construction-sponsored competition’s grand final between NY Storm and Tigers.
He said the initiative to promote unity was in line with the district’s plan to bring development projects to areas where there was peace.
Kil said Gumine MP Nick Kuman wanted the district to create and maintain peace in order to enjoy development initiatives.
Company representative Peter Gabe said he had no interest in politics but was involved in the competition as a senior citizen.
He said he wanted to expose raw talents and get more youths involved in coffee production.
Competition coordinator and ward two councillor Chalie Kai said the league had 16 clubs.
