THE Kone Tigers and Brothers are leading pools two and one respectively in the Port Moresby Rugby Football League premier division following round seven.
The Tigers continued their solid run following their 7-6 defeat over second-placed Paga while Brothers defeated Hohola Flies 10-0 to maintain their lead in pool one.
Tigers team manager David Komba said the lead in pool one was great for the club despite the normal season being disturbed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Despite the ups and downs of Covid-19 in our competition, we’re quite happy with the results because this sees us without a loss and only one draw after seven weeks,” he said.
“It’s been a struggle for the competition with the pandemic but we’ve been able to get support from Lae Biscuit Company and we have a strong management.”
The league administration will now discuss with club delegates on the finals format.
“The initial competition planned for this season was for everyone to have seven games each after the 14 clubs were split into two pools of seven,” administrator Meke Maino said.
“After week seven, we’ve had a lot interest building up in the competition, and we’ve also managed to have a handful of players from the Digicel Cup come in.”
