PORT Moresby-based electrical and mechanical company, Sun System Engineering Ltd, will support the University of Papua New Guinea’s staff contingent to the Intervarsity Games in Goroka next month.
The games will be held on Nov 17-19.
The company last week donated K10,000 to the organising committee towards expenses for the 130 players who will be competing in 12 sports.
Company marketing manager Geno Pat said it was the company’s gesture of saying thank you to UPNG for giving it business.
Pat said the company would continue to support UPNG and provide its services which had now diversified into renewable energy and green technology.
Organising committee president Melkie Anton said the funds would ensure the team was focused and would prepare well for the games.
The bi-ennual games contested by universities in PNG will be hosted by the University of Goroka.
It is understood that almost K180,000 is needed to send Team UPNG.
The team has been in training since July and according to Anton, the team will be a strong contender.
A vigorous fundraising drive was also launched but Goldie Tech Ltd is the first to support the team with external funding.
The sports to be competed by UPNG are: athletics, basketball, cricket (exhibition), darts, golf, netball, snooker, soccer, softball, table tennis, tennis, rouch rugby and volleyball.
