Local level governments in Finschhafen split into four

TWO local level governments in Finschhafen and one in Markham, Morobe, were split into four LLGs by the National Executive Council on Friday.
Finschhafen MP Rainbo Paita confirmed this, saying the LLGs of Burum-Kuat and Yabem-Mape had been split into four LLGs – now Burum, Kuat, Yabem and Mape while Umi-Atzera LLG of Markham was split into Umi and Atzera LLGs.
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato when asked about the new LLGs said he was not aware of it.
“No, not that I know of. If this is the case, the Department of Provincial Affairs would be responsible and they would advise me,” he said.
Finschhafen chief executive officer Glen Kiso said NEC had approved the LLGs, which meant the new LLGs would have their own presidents elected during the LLG elections.
President elect of the new Yabem LLG Ismael Nozu said the people of Mape were happy with the decision made by the NEC to separate Yabem and Mape.
“We have nine wards where one ward contained more than four to five villages which makes it difficult for councillors to deliver to their people,” he said.
“The distribution of services and funding has not been reaching the people for almost 20 years.”
