Locals receive mill, process raw products

BLOCKHOLDERS in the Sinivit local level government (LLG) of Pomio district in East New Britain (ENB) have been urged to work hard to earn a living off their land.
At the launching of a new rice mill at Ivon-Gore ward on Monday, Sinivit LLG manager Dominic Huranaka said people with land should not be idle.
Huranaka said the people of Ivon-Gore ward, led by their ward member James Vevut and his committee, were hard-working and their products were the result of their efforts.
He said some of their products on display during the launching were cocoa powder, butter, cakes, peanut oil, peanut butter, ground and blended coffee, moringa oil and powder, milled and packaged rice and fish from their farms.
He said the crops were available but added value could only come when people were active in creating more opportunities for themselves.
He reminded the people that planning by the Government had reached the ward level and people should grab the opportunities to access support such as training on downstream processing of their raw products and resources and funding sources.
He commended Ivon-Gore ward member and his committee for the leadership in trying to create employment for people and for promoting the basis of autonomy.
