Locals seek govt services in Kundiawa

THE number of people travelling into Chimbu capital’s Kundiawa has increased in recent months, says provincial police commander Epenes Nili.
He said this was to access government services because the district development authorities (DDAs) were operating in Kundiawa.
Nili said apart from those who come in to do their normal businesses, many others throughout Chimbu come to Kundiawa to seek help, follow up on their claims, and to access other government services through their DDAs.
A large number of people from the other districts, except Kerowagi, come into Kundiawa daily.
“Kerowagi alone is printing cheques and doing other administration functions at its district headquarters,” Nili said.
He said as more people come into the town, opportunists take advantage by engaging in crimes like pick-pocketing and snatching of personal items from vulnerable people. Nili, however, said following the 6am-6pm curfew imposed by the provincial government last week in the town area, the law and order situation has started to improve.
He said policing is also expected to improve after six new vehicles were presented to the Chimbu police recently.
Meanwhile, Nili thanked Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Muguwa Dilu and Chuave MP James Nomane for boosting policing in their districts by presenting a new vehicle each to their district police stations.
He said it was misreported in this paper earlier this week that Gumine DDA had bought a new police vehicle for the district.
“It was not Gumine DDA but Chuave DDA and Kundiawa-Gembogl DDA that bought a police vehicle each for their districts,” Nili said.
“My apologies to our good Chuave MP James Nomane and thank you for continuing to invest in police work.”
