The people of Rigo will take ownership of the electoral roll update exercise which will begin in the district soon, Central province administrator Gei Raga assured yesterday.
Raga told Electoral Commissioner Patalias Gamato that they would make sure that the exercise would be a success.
“What you have entrusted to us will become a success as we will honour the memorandum of understanding signed between both parties,” Raga said.
Raga assurance came during the launching of the electoral roll update for Rigo district at Kwikila Station.
“We salute you for decentralising the electoral roll because it’s been long overdue.
“We are not far from getting the results.
We will go into all the districts and villages and do registration.
Raga said PNG was a democratic country and  people would want to exercise their rights freely by registering their names and voting.
“As such, we applaud you for your initiative through this pilot project.”
On behalf of the people, Raga thanked the Electoral Commission and the Australian High Commission for their assistance in kick-starting this roll update project.
He encouraged all the members in the community to participate and make this project a success.
