Logona helps Panthers thrash Kangaroos in Hevea Cup tourney

PAPUA New Guinea Cassowaries veteran Joanne Logona scored 14 points to help Paga Panthers thrash Gerehu Kangaroos 42-0 in the Hevea Cup women’s rugby league nines at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
Logona was in devastating form as she ran rings around her inexperienced opponents time and again. The Aroma rugby sevens and 15s speedster put in a performance worthy of being noticed by national rugby league selectors.
Logona has the makings of a PNG Orchids back with her trademark elusiveness.
She was supported by PNG sevens star Mala Mark who was in the thick of the action as she dominated the edges to score two tries.
The Panthers were just too classy for their opponents who lost the plot after Paga opened the scoring.
Paga are the team to watch after they won their first two matches.
The Cup continues with the remaining rounds today and the final is scheduled for tomorrow.
Senior player Janet Michael said they were trialing all their players in preparation for the Port Moresby Rugby Football League pre-season nines.
Michael said their rugby and rugby league players were combining well and were set for the pre-season.
