LOOPHOLES in Central’s education system have not been closed, Abau MP and Minister for Public Services Sir Puka Temu says.
He told the Central provincial assembly meeting last Wednesday that they needed to start debating issues on education in the province and find solutions to some of the existing problems in province’s education system.
The minister proposed the adoption of an idea called “Closing of loops concept”. “What is the minimum standard of education in the province? How many elementary schools are there in villages? What is the minimum number of teachers in schools?” Sir Puka raised these questions on the floor of the assembly. “We should have a provincial education act to protect the future of Central children. We must draft a bill and pass it by the end of the year.
“We need to know the size of each community so we can plan their school classrooms accordingly.”
He also proposed the idea of setting up university centres in all districts within the province. He said this would be budgeted for and funded by the provincial administration.
