Lull before a massive storm hits Lae

The National, Friday 02nd December 2011

I agree with your editorial “Threats of more violence in Lae” (Nov 30).
The government and other authorities may say the situation is back to normal but I beg to differ.
Recent killing cases have cast doubts in many citizens.
There are also rumours of unknown people going around attacking unsuspecting families and individuals.
Petty crimes, rapes, bag snatching, etc, are just the tip of the iceberg.
Lae is notorious for its frequent ethnic clashes and they have yet to be resolved.
The hatred has been there for a long time.
Morobeans and others are just waiting for a spark to reignite the flame that has not been put out since Nov 3.
The Morobean government has to look at long-term solutions.
Let us not kid ourselves this normalcy will last.
The signs are there and the authorities must act instead of doing nothing.
