Madang’s budget to host Apec meeting next month will run into millions, committee chairman Markus Kachau says.
Kachau, in a media briefing yesterday, said the Apec meeting scheduled for Kokopo was diverted to Madang after it was confirmed by the National Executive Council.
He said the Apec’s Waigani and Madang committee had meetings for ground preparations.
According to Kachau the dates scheduled for hosting the meeting was June 05-08.
He said there will be maintenances of certain structures in town to cater for the meeting next month.
Kauchau said town roads would be upgraded and the town’s land marks would be beautified.
Accommodations of participants and healthcare establishments, security, water and power supply and fire services facilities were all under preparations.
“Our budget to host the meeting runs into millions and we will need support from the national government,” Kachau said.
Kachau said Madang town residents need to be aware that the meeting would be an important meeting where economists from Apec countries would attend.
Madang governor Peter Yama said he was very confident that his province would host and deliver the meeting with a high note.
Yama said it would be the chance to market Madang to potential investors.
