Madang FC lose at home

Besta PNG United beat Madang FC 2-0 on their home turf in the last round of the National Soccer League at Laiwaden Oval on Saturday.
Madang were made to look ordinary by the talented Besta PNG United side.
With the crowd behind the PNGFA Academy boys, Besta had the flow of play to pepper Madang’s defence with several missed opportunities.
But Madang held firm to keep the first half scoreless.
The break gave Besta the much needed energy, as they left the flat-footed Madang side struggling to regain composure.
The inclusion of regular starting striker Jonathan Allen to replace Ernest Gwaitep helped beef up their offence.
Besta’s quick passing game started to frustrate Madang’s defence before Allen broke the deadlock in the 80th minute.
Besta’s nippy Ricky Wadunah, who is proving to be a class act alongside Emmanuel Simongi, dictated the midfield.
Even the efforts of Madang and PNG defender Abel Redenut proved fruitless as Allen and Barthy Kerobin ran rings around him.
With three minutes remaining, Wadunah scored Besta’s second goal and held on to win.
Besta PNG United manager Besi Simongi congratulated his players, saying the win had now put them in the race for second spot.
“The boys followed the game plan and we achieved that. We are now looking forward for our three deferred matches,” Simongi said.
Meanwhile, the match between Buang FC and Toti City FC did not eventuate due to in-house issues between Buang FC players.
The match will be added to the number of cancelled matches yet to be played.
