Madang project queried

Letters

ALLOW me space as a concerned resident of Madang to question the Ministry and Department of Commerce and Industry for the mishandling of the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone Project land allotment titles.
The whole project implementation in the consultation process involving prominent Madang leaders, including Sir Arnold Amet, was to create an investment vehicle with joint holdings (of a State nominee, provincial government and landowners and impact communities who surrendered their land as shareholders) to manage the assets and generate sustainable revenue.
All land were to be on a short-term lease of up to 20 years with renewals for investors who put up processing factories.
The idea to sell off a 99-year lease is an insult to the local landowners and people of Madang.
Is the PNC government led by Peter O’Neill trying to deceive the people of Madang through the recent announcement by the Minister for Commerce and Industry?
A protest at the PMIZ site is looming after concerns expressed by the Governor.
