MADANG police are investigating the death of a young man in the Abenob local level government area last Saturday.
Police said the man was with a group from Gonoa village that went to neighbouring Umuin village for a soccer game on Boxing Day when he was stabbed to death following an argument with a youth from the area.
He died from multiple stab wounds near the Shady forest timber along the Madang-Lae and Highlands highway.
Police said the other youth involved in the argument was stabbed but was admitted at the Madang General Hospital where he is recovering.
They are investigating with a view of making arrests.
Police said apart from the killing, all the districts in Madang province reported quiet Christmas celebrations.
Madang police station commander Sr Insp Steven Kaipa said the youths and the leaders involved in community policing were doing a tremendous work in maintaining peace and combating crime.
He said many of the youths would be given citizen arresting powers to assist police after going through basic police training.
