Magistrate asks to check amendments

A MAGISTRATE raised issues on Friday in relation to amendments to the criminal code regarding new charges laid against suspects in the K160 million cocaine bust near Papa and Lealea villages near Port Moresby.
Central Committal Court Magistrate Laura Kuvi told prosecutions’ Boas Binuali in the matter and the lawyer representing suspect Shane Dikana, Edward Sasingan, from the Public Solicitors Office to check out the amendments.
“Counsels and prosecutor, you can check up on the amendments whether they’re gazetted or not,” Magistrate Kuvi said.
“Presently they are not consolidated yet into the criminal code. They are on the sessional section.”
Magistrate Kuvi raised the issues after the suspects’ cases were transferred to Central for arraignment on the charge of dealing with criminal property.
She fixed Sept 24 for arraignment of the suspects because lawyers representing Carlo D’Attanasio and Dominic Terupa were not present.
